The weeknight evening plan is my favorite way to catch up with friends (aside from brunch, of course). Unless it’s an event, a house party or a birthday, my weekend nights are generally spent low key and out of restaurants and bars. One of my favorite spots to go on a Tuesday night is Poco on 3rd Street and Avenue B. Poco has specials most nights of the week, but Tuesday’s is the only one I can speak to: for $35 you get endless white or red sangria and two tapas of your choice.

Choices include a rich lobster mac and cheese (above and delicious), pan seared scallops with king mushroom and Vietnamese curry, mushroom truffle croquettes with truffle crème fraiche, or skirt steak with crispy potato, cured bacon, shallots, chimichurri sauce and pickled avocado. In fact, choices truly include everything on their menu.

Last Tuesday I met a small group of friends I made when working at MTV, and everyone straggled in due to shoots and work schedules. It was a perfect place to reconnect – the music wasn’t too loud, the food is best in waves anyway and their selection accommodated everyone in the party (the vegetarian of the group ordered some incredible brussell sprout dish not listed on their online menu). Some tapas dishes can be a little salty, and some of their drinks can be a little sweet, but overall this place is one of my neighborhood faves. Outside seating during the warm months!
