parisian collants 2

Nylons. Stockings. Pantyhose. Whatever you call them, the nude version slipped out of rotation for most of us long ago. We go bare legged in the warmer months and hunker down with tights or leggings during the winter. Nude nylons only seem to come out for nights to the opera or a grandparent’s birthday party. Michelle and I have always loved a nude nylon (and bust ‘em out solo or with knee socks and leg warmers) but haven’t made a conscious effort to bring them back into rotation until recently.

I spent seven incredible weeks in Paris and Italy this spring and discovered that nude nylons (collants in French) were everywhere. Women of all ages, including tweens, wore them under their shorts and skirts during the day and night. Collants never went out of style in Paris.

Makes sense though, right? Pantyhose keep you warm, hold everything in tight (ladies, you know what I mean) and if you match the color correctly, show off your gams in the best possible way. As one of my friends pointed out while scoping out pair after pair of great legs, “wearing nude nylons is like taking an airbrush to your legs.” Duh. Why did we ever stop wearing them regularly?!

Added bonus from my Parisian intel: most of the French girls I spoke with also said wearing collants helps them feel “less exposed” while walking around Paris/riding the metro in short shorts or mini skirts.

We all run around with bare legs in the summer, so why should we have to cover them up with matte colors or prints during the winter? We’re going to rock collants this party season and come back to you soon with our favorite brands. Give ‘em a try! We’d love to know which brands you like best!
