thanksgiving apple cider 2

One great thing about the holidays are the warm drinks – cocoa, tea, ciders, mulled wines, hot toddies, etc. We like them all. I found this recipe on allrecipes.com and altered it a bit to fit our Thanksgiving Birthday Brunch needs. I used diet cranberry juice and no one could tell the difference.

I spiked drinks with rum and served it twice in a week. Both times guests raved about the warm kick and holiday scent. The color is also a plus! I suggest serving it in a clear mug like our mason jars with coozies. It even did well with guests who aren’t wild about cranberry.

Definitely worth trying if you enjoy mulled cider! {xo celine}

Hot Mulled Apple Cranberry Cider

(Recipe adapted from this one)

  • 2 quarts apple cider
  • 2 quarts diet cranberry juice (or regular, I think it would have been too sweet and too many cals wasted if I used full sugar cranberry, but I didn’t try it and I’m sure it’d be delicious!)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 6 cinnamon sticks (or less)
  • 2 teaspoons fresh cloves
  • 1 lemon
  • rum

In a large pot, combine apple cider, cranberry juice and brown sugar. If you have the ability to make a coffee filter or cheesecloth pouch to put your cinnamon and fresh cloves into, do so. Otherwise, throw them into the pot and strain your drinks when serving. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low. Best if mulled for at least an hour. (I had it going during Thanksgiving Birthday Brunch prep because it smells delicious). Slice lemon into thin rounds. Serve cider spiked with rum if you like and a lemon slice floating on top.
