corkalicious featured

At the risk of sounding narcissistic, I wanted to tell you a little about my wedding. Since we have plenty of time to get to know each other, I figured it would be a more fun, intriguing, annoying, nail-biting-of-a good time if I unveiled myself (pun totally intended) bit by bit.

Insider view #1: I’m getting hitched on a vineyard!

Alas, as you might have guessed by now, my future-hubby and I love our wine. So it should come as no surprise that I will responsibly imbibe in the theme. Despite the recent shift towards plastic corks within the wine industry, real corks are craft-gals muse. Et Voila, the latest in my wedding finds.

Side note: Whose idea was that anyways? Yes, I know they are more environmentally friendly and economically sensible, but there’s something just not right about popping open a bottle of a red and revealing a plastic cork, or worse (gasp) a screw top! But I digress… I have been known to drink those boxed wines-type in college *cough Michelle cough*

It seems as though I have been gathering up corks since the day I was engaged…. There are just so many things to do with them; especially if you have that collector and/or crafty gene. Initially, I was simply going to use corks as escort-card holders for my guests. Check!

Then, at a local restaurant that my fiancé and I frequent, I noticed clear cylinder vases filled with corks as the décor.  Check!  (Please excuse the iPhone snapshot!)

And well…. the rest is history…. I have found so many – er, waaayyy tooooo many – fun ways to use corks: from innovative décor pieces:

to the ‘typical’ corkboard – which, by the way, everyone says they have seen/heard of/own, but have we actually made one with our fondly collected corks!?

And in the spirit of the holidays, check out this cool cork wreath as well as the one in Celine’s DIY Holiday Projects! Use it as an excuse to be festive, or as I am planning to do, place it in the wedding entryway for the guests to {hopefully} admire.

Whether you’re planning a vineyard wedding or not, who wouldn’t love having these monogram initials adorning their walls? Simply order plain wooden letters from this website – they have a HUGE selection of fonts and styling, and I absolutely recommend them – and glue on the corks.

Lesson learned, you ask? Drinking a glass of red wine a day, does more than keep the doctor away. It keeps us inspired! (Just please make sure it’s a glass and not a bottle before these crafts are attempted…. You know who you are.)

Until next time…. xoxo Jes

Awesome! I have been saving my corks for over a year now and have been mulling over what to do with them! I like the cork candles! I just bought a bottle cutter so I can also utilize the bottles in my creations! Thanks!

I made a cork wreath! But I borrowed corks… Well, I don't actually intend on returning them, but you know what I mean. My "wino" of a building manager loved it and when I put my regular Christmas wreath up, she thought someone had stolen the cork wreath (meaning that she wished she had done it sooner.) I love you and your awesomeness!
