With the weather getting colder and colder by the day, people are less inclined to go out and enjoy themselves. This is that time when they only make it out once or twice a week, and only for special occasions (like a birthday extravaganza) or because they have become stir crazy and need a night out.
For me, I like to go places that are cozy and or seem like summer spots to kind of psyche myself out. Places like, indoor rooftop bars, or enclosed outdoor spaces with heaters! These type of places help get me out of the house in the wintertime. Here are some suggested favorites and if Seasonal Affective Disorder saddens you in the winter, maybe one of them will help you get out of the house and psyche yourself into some happiness!
Porch
115 Ave C (between 7th & 8th Streets)
This is a secret gem, so secret that I’m not even sure why I’m sharing it publicly. Hidden away in Alphabet City the Porch has an outdoor garden, a candlelit terrace, and a cozy fireplace lounge. It’s a great place to go day or night with great energy and in a great neighborhood.
Top of the Strand
33 West 37th Street (between 5th & 6th Aves.)
Sitting at the top of the Strand Hotel, this very cozy rooftop has amazing views, great cocktails and comfy seating. Conveniently located in Midtown for after work drinks (if you’re into that sort of thing) or as a central meeting place I recommend this indoor rooftop space as a great way to beat the cold!
Rare View Bar & Grill – Chelsea
152 West 26th Street (between 6th & 7th Aves.)
There are a couple of Rare View Bars in the city one on 37th & Lexington, which is not my favorite neighborhood and the other in Chelsea. Right by my old stomping grounds… That isn’t why I like this place, but liking the area I’m going out to definitely is a plus.
Upstairs – At the Kimberly Hotel
145 East 50th St (between 3rd & Lexington)
It’s pretty here. And they have brunch. And it’s pretty. And they have brunch.
Stay warm kids!! ^m
